Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Alston's second-half tally held up
as the winner on Saturday as the New England Revolution came away with a 2-0
victory over the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium.
After getting embarrassed by Houston, 4-0, in the season opener at BBVA
Compass Stadium back on March 8, the Revs were determined to put forth a
better effort, but both clubs struggled to generate scoring chances in a
goalless first half.
The match opened up in the second half and New England found the breakthrough
in the 68th minute when Teal Bunbury worked his way to the penalty area before
leaving it off for Alston, who ripped a rising strike into the roof of the net
past Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall.
The Revs then put the game away in stoppage time when Hall came out to claim a
long ball up field by A.J. Soares. Hall failed to make contact, allowing Jerry
Bengtson to casually walk it into the net to ensure all three points for his
New England improves to seven points from six games, while Houston remains on
six points having lost three on the bounce.
