Final Score: San Jose 2, FC Dallas 1

Santa Clara, CA ( - The San Jose Earthquakes closed out their season on Saturday with a 2-1 win over FC Dallas at Buck Shaw Stadium courtesy of goals from Walter Martinez and Chris Wondolowski.

San Jose's only chance to stay alive in the playoff race on Saturday was to score 13 goals against Dallas, so the result was far from what was required, handing the final playoff spot in the Western Conference to the Colorado Rapids.

The match also marked the final one for Earthquakes veteran Ramiro Corrales, who was the last remaining active player to have taken part in the inaugural season in MLS in 1996.

Corrales had an early chance go narrowly wide for San Jose before Martinez opened the scoring midway through the first half with a low ball into the box for Steven Lenhart that made its way through traffic and all the way inside the far post.

Lenhart then set up the second goal in the 57th minute when he knocked a loose ball inside the penalty area to Wondolowski, who provided an emphatic finish into the roof of the net.

Corrales came off in the 70th minute for Rafael Baca and was carried off the pitch by two of his teammates, while Dallas could only manage to pull one goal back in the 90th minute when a cross from Blas Perez was headed home by substitute Stephen Keel.
