Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy continues its march
toward the MLS Supporters' Shield, as it defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3-0
at The Home Depot Center on Saturday.
Los Angeles continues to set the pace in MLS, leading the league with 58
points as it looks to claim its fourth Supporters' Shield, which would tie the
club with D.C. United for the most in league history.
Mike Magee tallied two goals against the Whitecaps, while Robbie Keane notched
a goal and an assist to help claim all three points for the Galaxy.
Magee put the Galaxy in front just before halftime. Keane used his speed to
break free on the left side of the box before playing a brilliant ball across
the face of goal, where an on-rushing Magee connected to open the scoring in
the 40th minute.
Keane recorded a goal of his own in the second half. Bryan Jordan exploited
space on the right flank and sent a long, curling cross into the box. Keane
lost his mark and headed his effort past a diving Joe Cannon to double the
Magee provided additional insurance in the 75th minute to complete his brace.
Jordan sent another cross into the box which was met by Magee, who headed a
shot just inside the far post.
The Galaxy are now unbeaten in its last five Major League Soccer matches,
going 4-0-1 in that stretch
The Whitecaps, meanwhile, have lost three of their last five in MLS regular
season play. They have endured a very tough campaign, accumulating a league-
worst 22 points in their debut season.
Things will not get much easier for Vancouver (4-14-10), as it will return
home to host Seattle Sounders FC at Empire Field on Sept. 24. The Galaxy will
face the Eastern Conference-leading Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium the same
