Final Score: Portland 1, Seattle 1

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Mamadou Danso scored in the 65th minute, as the Portland Timbers earned a 1-1 draw against Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday in front of 36,593 fans at Qwest Field in Major League Soccer.

Alvaro Fernandez scored in the 52nd for Seattle, but Danso notched his second goal in as many goals on an almost identical play as his match-winner against the Philadelphia Union last week.

Portland (4-3-2) remained winless on the road, but picked up its second tie in five matches away from Jeld-Wen Field. The expansion Timbers are undefeated in four matches at home this season.

Seattle (3-3-5) dropped points at home for the third time in five home matches in the first meeting between the long-time rivals - who first met in 1975 - in MLS.

Sounders FC took the lead seven minutes after halftime after Fredy Montero won a header just outside the area to flick the ball onto an open Fernandez on the far side, and the Uruguayan settled and fired a half-volley past Troy Perkins.

Portland answered off a free kick, as Jack Jewsbury drove the opportunity from just inside midfield into the area, and Danso won the ball just before Seattle goalie Kasey Keller could punch it to head into an empty net from six yards.

Portland returns home May 21 to host the Columbus Crew, while Seattle stays at Qwest for its next match on May 21 against Sporting Kansas City.
