Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Joao Plata had a goal and an assist and Toronto
FC edged the Houston Dynamo, 2-1, on Saturday at BMO Field to snap a six-match
winless streak in Major League Soccer.
Plata scored the first goal of the match in the 50th minute, then assisted on
Maicon Santos' goal in the 81st for Toronto (2-3-4), which last won March 26.
Lovel Palmer scored in the 87th for Houston (3-3-3), which lost its second in
a row. The Dynamo lost to the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, on Wednesday.
After a scoreless first half, Toronto took the lead early in the second half
after Nick Soolsma was fouled by Houston's Andre Hainault in the area. Plata
drove the penalty into the upper-left corner for his first MLS goal.
Santos doubled Toronto's lead in the 81st when Plata played a ball to him, and
Santos fired into the bottom right from inside the area for his second goal of
Palmer pulled a goal back in the 87th, as he took a pass from Je-Vaughn Watson
and fired into the lower right from 18 yards but Houston couldn't find another
goal to steal a point on the road.
Toronto FC returns to action Wednesday at FC Dallas. Houston visits Real Salt
Lake on May 14.
