Final Score: D.C. United 3, Columbus 1

Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - Charlie Davies scored twice in his return from life-threatening injuries almost two years ago, as D.C. United downed the Columbus Crew, 3-1, at RFK Stadium on Saturday in Major League Soccer.

Davies, on loan from French club Sochaux, converted a penalty kick in the 64th and added his second goal in the 77th in his MLS debut. Josh Wolff also scored for United (1-0-0), which was the worst team in the league last season.

Robbie Rogers converted a late penalty kick for Columbus (0-1-0), which ended last season second in the Eastern Conference.

Wolff, acquired this offseason from Kansas City, marked his United debut with the opening goal of the match six minutes after halftime.

Davies entered the match as a substitute early in the second half, and manager Ben Olsen gave him the chance to convert from the spot following a foul in the box on Chris Pontius.

Davies, who sustained multiple fractures, a lacerated bladder and a torn knee ligaments in a fatal one-car accident just outside Washington, D.C., added his second goal in the 77th to cap his memorable return.

The striker, who last played days before the accident for the U.S., added his second goal when he avoided Columbus defender Chad Marshall and goalie William Hesmer to slot inside the left post.

D.C. will try to build on the victory March 26 at the New England Revolution. Columbus hosts Red Bull New York on March 26.
