Final Score: Chivas USA 3, Toronto FC 0

Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA topped Toronto FC 3-0 in Major League Soccer action at the Home Depot Center on Saturday night.

The game was meaningless as far as the upcoming playoffs are concerned, with both clubs eliminated from contention for a spot.

Chivas USA (8-15-4), the last-placed team in the Western table entering the day, leapfrogged the Houston Dynamo, who host New England on Sunday.

The Goats weathered an early Toronto (8-13-7) storm before jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute on a goal by Jorge Flores. Rodolfo Espinoza created the chance when he had room on the right side of the TFC penalty area and played a low ball into the six-yard box to Flores, who knocked it home from close range for his first goal of the season.

That was how the score stayed until the closing minutes when Chivas USA got quick goals from Jesus Padilla and Espinoza.

Alan Gordan laid a ball off to Padilla in the 88th minute, and he fired a long-range blast that went through the hands of TFC goalkeeper Stefan Frei to make it 2-0.

Espinoza cut the ball past TFC defender Julian de Guzman at the top of the area and curled a left-footed shot into the top corner for the 3-0 lead two minutes later to close out the scoring.
