Final Score: Dallas 3, Kansas City 1
Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - FC Dallas extended its Major League Soccer
unbeaten run to 17 games with a 3-1 win at Kansas City on Saturday night at
The Hoops (11-2-13) jumped out to a 1-0 advantage inside five minutes when
David Ferreira played a ball over the defense to Marvin Chavez, who volleyed
the shot, one-time, past Wizards goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen for his first goal
of the season.
Milton Rodriguez doubled the visitors' lead in the 12th minute when Atiba
Harris back-heeled through to him as he was taken down by a pair of defenders.
Rodriguez then settled and fired home from the top of the area for his third
goal of the season.
Ryan Smith pulled one back for Kansas City in the 57th minute to make it 2-1
when he cracked a shot from the right side of the area, but Jeff Cunningham's
10th goal of the season eight minutes from time restored the two-goal
advantage for the Wizards.
Cunningham now has 131 career MLS goals, just one away from Jaime Moreno for
the league's all-time goal-scoring record.
The loss severely threatens the Wizards chances at the second season after
they lost ground on Seattle, which entered the day holding onto the eighth and
final playoff spot.
Kansas City (9-10-6) will aim to make up some ground at New York next
Saturday, while FCD will try to extend its streak to 18 when it hosts Chicago
the same day in its next MLS fixture.
