Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC striker Blaise Nkufo has
been looking for his first Major League Soccer goal since joining the club as
a designated player in the summer transfer window.
The Swiss international busted out of his goal-scoring drought in a big way on
Saturday night in Columbus, scoring three goals to lead his team to an
impressive 4-0 victory over the Eastern table-leading Crew.
Nkufo got his team off to a flying start with his first goal in the fourth
minute. A Nathan Sturgis corner kick was headed on goal by Seattle striker
Fredy Montero, and after Columbus goalkeeper Will Hesmer made the save, Nkufo
cleaned up the garbage for his first MLS goal.
Nkufo made it 2-0 in the 39th minute when he got on the end of a cross that
went through the Columbus penalty area, took a touch to power around a
defender and slipped an expert finish inside the far post.
Sturgis gave the visitors a 3-0 first-half lead just three minutes later when
he converted a penalty kick after winger Sanna Nyassi was taken down by
defender Danny O'Rourke in the area.
Nkufo completed his hat trick with the only goal of the second half 15 minutes
from time to make it 4-0.
