Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The Chicago Fire earned a 1-0 victory over
the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer action at Gillette Stadium
on Sunday night.
A Marco Pappa goal in the 30th minute proved to be the difference as both
teams looked rusty from the two-week layoff because of the league's stoppage
during the FIFA World Cup Group Stage.
The win pushed the Fire to 4-3-5, stretching their unbeaten run to five games.
With the loss, New England (3-8-2) has just one win its last 10 league
Pappa's goal, his sixth of the season, came when he received the ball in the
offensive third, took a touch around New England midfielder Shalrie Joseph,
and unleashed a left-footed rocket past goalkeeper Matt Reis, who was making
his first start of the season because of injuries.
New England will aim to rebound at Real Salt Lake on Friday, while the Fire
play at Columbus the following day in their next MLS fixture.
