Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - Mehdi Ballouchy scored in the 67th minute,
and the Colorado Rapids won at D.C. United for the first time since 1999, 1-0
on Saturday night at RFK Stadium.
Colorado (4-3-1) ended a two-match losing skid with its first goal this month.
The Rapids lost their last two games 1-0, to San Jose and Los Angeles.
United (1-7-0) was shutout for the sixth time in eight matches this season.
Conor Casey had the best chance in the first half for Colorado after he split
United's Juan Manuel Pena and Jordan Graye to reach a pass from Ballouchy, but
headed wide left from seven yards in the 28th.
Danny Allsopp created United's top chance two minutes later when sprinted down
the left side to the end line, but was denied by a leg-save from Matt Pickens.
Colorado didn't put a shot on goal until 22 minutes into the second half, but
Ballouchy converted the chance. Ballouchy controlled the ball inside the right
side of the area, and drove a shot through Juan Manuel Pena's legs and inside
the right post past a flat-footed Bill Hamid.
The Rapids nearly put the match away in the 71st when Colin Clark fired a long
shot past Hamid, but the ball smashed off the left post. Hamid got a hand from
the left post again in the 78th off a free kick from Ballouchy.
Hamid made his first save in the 83rd on a close-range hit from Clark. The 19-
year-old rookie followed with a great foot-save on Omar Cummings in the 87th.
United never could respond with the tying goal, and lost for the seventh time.
D.C. has just four goals all season.
Pickens made three saves, all in the first half, for his second shutout of the
D.C. visits Houston on May 22, and Colorado is off until May 29 when it hosts
