Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York earned its third win in four
tries this season - including going 2-0 at home - with a hard-fought 2-1 win
over FC Dallas at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.
Juan Pablo Angel scored both New York goals to lead the club to victory.
Dax McCarty actually gave the visitors the early advantage with his first goal
of the season 10 minutes into the game. Heath Pearce, who was playing right
midfield instead of his usual spot in the backline, played a cross into the
New York penalty. McCarty, who was left unmarked, then snapped a perfect
header into the goal past Bouna Coundoul for the 1-0 advantage.
New York (3-1-0) took a little while to get its feet under it, being outplayed
in the first half, but Coundoul, who made six saves in the game, kept his team
within striking distance.
Red Bull finally broke through in the 56th minute when midfielder Joel
Lindpere made an overlapping run in the Hoops' penalty area and played a ball
to Angel's feet. Angel then one-timed a shot past goalkeeper Dario Sala to tie
the game at one.
New York looked like it would go up 2-1 about 10 minutes later when Mac Kandji
drew a penalty kick after an over-the-top pass from winger Dane Richards, but
Sala saved Angel's chance and the game remained knotted at one. The save was
Sala's first of the match.
But New York got another chance from the line in the 90th minute after FCD
defender Daniel Hernandez took down Sinisa Ubiparipovic, and this time Angel
slotted the shot home for the winner.
Dallas (0-1-2) will be gunning for its first win of the season when it hosts
Seattle Sounders FC on Thursday night, while New York hosts the Philadelphia
Union on Saturday in its next Major League Soccer match.
