Final Score: New England 2, D.C. United 0

Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution got a brace from second-half substitute Kenny Mansally to top D.C. United, 2-0, in the Black-and-Red's home opener on Saturday night at RFK Stadium.

The result is especially disappointing for the home side, with over 20,000 fans showing up for the 2010 opener of Major League Soccer in the District.

United actually controlled possession for the majority of the game, but were unable to generate many quality chances as the Revs stayed tight while playing without a number of injured players, most notably rock-solid midfielder Shalrie Joseph.

The best chance for either side in the opening 45 came just before the break. United winger Brandon Barklage crossed from the right side into the area to striker Chris Pontius, who's header went just over the bar as the game remained scoreless at halftime.

The second half started much like the first, with New England (1-1-0) staying compact while United controlled possession, but failed to generate anything in the offensive third.

The Revolution didn't actually get their first shot on goal until the 74th minute, when Pat Phalen's long-range chance was gobbled up by goalkeeper Troy Perkins.

Mansally finally scored the game's first goal 10 minutes from time - after being subbed in for striker Zack Schilawski in the 68th minute - after finishing a quick counter-attack by the Revs.

Chris Tierney started the chance from the left side and crossed into the area where Mansally smashed home a flicked ball for his - and his team's - first goal of the young season.

Mansally struck again less than two minutes later to put a dagger in United's heart when he chipped a shot over Perkins from the edge of the area, just inside the far post.

United (0-2-0) will be gunning for its first win of the season when it travels to take on the expansion Philadelphia Union next Saturday, while the Revs will look to build on the opportunistic effort vs. Toronto FC later the same night in their next MLS fixture.
