Final Score: Columbus 1, New England 0

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The Columbus Crew earned a 1-0 victory at the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night.

With the win, Columbus (13-5-10) extends its lead atop the Eastern table, and improves its chances at its second straight Supporter's shield.

The loss, New England's second in its last three games, is crippling to the club's chances at earning a playoff spot. The team still sits in third in the East thanks to Toronto's loss earlier in the day, but the gap has been closed, leaving the Revs with no room for error in their last two games.

The game's lone goal occurred on a fluke at the end of the first half when Crew defender Gino Padula fired a shot from distance that took a crazy bounce through the defense and over goalkeeper Matt Reis. The goal was Padula's first of the season.

Columbus will aim to continue its current form - just two losses in its last 14 - when it travels to D.C. next Saturday, while New England will be gunning for the full points vs. Chicago earlier the same night in its next MLS fixture.
