Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - D.C. United earned a hard-fought three
points with a 1-0 victory at Toyota Park vs. the Chicago Fire in Major League
Soccer action on Saturday night.
United (7-5-11) was in dire need of the result after going winless in its
previous four league fixtures.
Chicago (10-6-8) has now closed out and up-and-down August with a 3-3 record,
going 2-2 on its home field.
The game's only goal was scored in the 11th minute when defender Brian Namoff
scored his second goal of the season. Midfielder Christian Gomez controlled
the ball on the right side before crossing into the Chicago penalty area
toward Namoff, who was making a run from his left back spot. Namoff then
glanced a header past goalkeeper Jon Busch, into the far post side netting for
the game winner.
United will aim to build on the solid road effort when it travels to Dallas
next Saturday for its next league match, while the Fire are off until Sept.
12, when they travel to take on Real Salt Lake.
