Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Fire earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night.

With the win, Chicago (7-3-7) leap-frogs three teams to take the top spot in the Eastern Conference table with 28 points after 17 league matches.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored a goal and an assist and Patrick Nyarko scored the game winner to lead the home side to just its second victory at Toyota Park this season.

With the teams deadlocked in a 0-0 tie, with less than 10 minutes to play, Blanco found Nyarko, crossing into the box to the young striker, who volleyed it out of the air past S.J. goalkeeper Joe Cannon for the 1-0 advantage.

Blanco then added an insurance goal after Wilman Conde intercepted an errant Earthquakes' clearance and passed to the Mexican international before he fired a touch shot over Cannon for his fourth goal of the season.

The Fire will aim to continue their form when they play at Seattle next Saturday, while the 'Quakes (3-10-4) will try to gain some momentum vs. D.C. United the same night in their next MLS match.
