Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Dynamo extended their unbeaten
streak to 11 games with a 1-1 draw vs. Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at
After falling behind in the first half, Brian Ching came through with the
equalizer in the 89th minute to ensure the Dynamo would earn a share of the
points at home against a 10-man RSL squad.
RSL (4-6-4) got the game's first goal in the 28th minute in what was
originally ruled as an own goal against Houston defender Bobby Boswell, but
was changed to a Fabian Espindola tally later.
Chris Wingert started the chance by playing a ball up to RSL forward Yura
Movsisyan. Movsisyan then back-heeled a pass to Espindola in the Houston
penalty area before the Argentine fired a hard shot that deflected off Boswell
and into the net.
The goal was the first first-half tally that the Dynamo had given up during
their current unbeaten run.
RSL defender Jamison Olave was sent off with his second yellow card just
before the hour mark, giving the Dynamo a chance by playing a man up the rest
of the way.
It appeared they would take advantage in the 73rd minute when Ching was taken
down by RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the penalty area, drawing a penalty
kick. Rimando came up big, however, when he saved a Brad Davis kick that was
right at him.
The Dynamo finally broke through with minutes to play when Ching controlled
the ball in the midfield and played a pass out to the right wing to Brian
Mullan. Ching then made a run into the box and headed home the ensuing service
from Mullan for his fifth goal of the season.
The Dynamo (8-2-4) will aim to continue their streak when they play at the Los
Angeles Galaxy on June 28 in their next MLS fixture, while RSL will try to
extend its current three-game unbeaten run when it hosts Toronto FC a day
