Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored the second-half game-winner, after the teams
traded goals in the first half, to lead his team to just its second victory of
The 'Quakes actually scored the game's first goal just 23 minutes in when Ryan
Johnson tallied his fifth goal of the season. Eric Denton started the chance
with a long ball into the Crew penalty area that was chested down by Quincy
Amarikwa. The ball then went to Johnson and he fired home to give the visitors
a 1-0 lead.
But the Crew were able to equalize just six minutes later when Gino Pedula
played a cleared corner back into the 'Quakes area to Eric Brunner, who
headed across the goal mouth to Gaven. Gaven made no mistake on the chance,
heading into an open net for his second goal of the season.
That was how the score stayed until just after the break when Schelotto took a
pass from Emmanuel Ekpo and fired home for his sixth of the season.
The Crew (2-2-6) are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on
the Seattle Sounders FC, while San Jose (1-7-2) hosts Real Salt Lake the same
night in its next MLS fixture.
