Final Score: Columbus 1, Los Angeles 1
Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Columbus Crew and Los Angeles Galaxy
continued their current run of form, earning a 1-1 draw at The Home Depot
Center in Major League Soccer action on Sunday afternoon.
The draw is the fourth in five games for Columbus, and the six in seven games
for the Galaxy.
After the two teams battled through about 70 minutes of mostly uninspired
soccer, Guillermo Barros Schelotto took advantage a mistake by the Galaxy
backline to give his side the advantage. L.A. goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts
controlled the ball in his area before passing to veteran defender Tony Sanneh
on the right side. But Sanneh took a heavy first touch, which allowed
Schelotto to knife in and steal the ball before firing past Ricketts for his
fifth goal of the season.
But with time winding down and the Crew playing down a man because of the
second yellow Danny O'Rourke earned in the 89th minute, the Galaxy were able
to get the equalizer.
Eddie Lewis scored the goal after pouncing on a loose ball about 20 yards out
and one-timing a left-footed laser in the far post side netting.
L.A. (1-1-7) travels to Dallas for its next league fixture next Saturday,
while the Crew (1-2-6) host San Jose on May 27 in its next MLS match.
