Final Score: Colorado 1, Columbus 1

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - The defending Major League Soccer champion Columbus Crew thought they had their first win of the 2009 season on Saturday vs. the Colorado Rapids at Crew Stadium. But Rapids' forward Conor Casey had other ideas.

With the score 1-0 Crew with less than 10 minutes to play, Casey scored his fourth goal in the past two games to make it 1-1 and secure the valuable road point for his club.

The Crew (0-2-3) have played an MLS-high five games through the first four weeks of the 2009 campaign, and have yet to find the form that won them both the 2008 Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup.

Defending league MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto gave the home side a 1-0 lead just before the break for his third goal of the season. Left back Gino Pedula started the play with a long ball from the backline to Emmanuel Ekpo in the left corner. Ekpo then played a ball to the center of the 18-yard box to Schelotto, who one-timed the chance just inside the far post.

But despite dominating the Rapids for long stretches in the second half, the Crew couldn't add to their lead.

Casey made them pay in the 82nd minute after a ball was played through the defense to the breaking striker. Casey then pulled a step-over around the last defender and slotted the chance past Columbus goalkeeper Will Hesmer to tie the game at one.

Columbus' second-half substitute Steven Lenhart had a couple chances in the closing minutes just go over the bar, as the Crew had to settle for a share of the points.

The Crew have a week off before playing their next MLS match vs. Chicago on April 25, while Colorado (2-1-1) plays at Houston on April 19 in its next league fixture.
