Final Score: Real Salt Lake 2, D.C. United 1

Sandy, UT (Sports Network) - Real Salt didn't win consecutive Major League Soccer fixtures all of last season despite the fact that it qualified for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

But with a 2-1 win over D.C. United at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, this season's version of the Utah club has already been able to accomplish that feat just four weeks into the 2009 campaign.

After the two clubs battled to a 1-1 draw through the first 80 minutes of the game, reigning RSL MVP Javier Morales connected on his first goal of the season to give his club its second straight home victory after topping Columbus 4-1 last week.

United (1-1-2) took the first-half lead with striker Luciano Emilio scoring his third goal of the season in the 38th minute. Winger Fred started the chance when he controlled the ball in the RSL penalty area, and played a drop ball to rookie Chris Pontius. Pontius then played a cross into the six-yard box to Emilio, who nodded a header inside the far post.

Real Salt Lake responded less than two minutes later when Jamison Olave scored his first goal of the season. Will Johnson started the chance with a throw-in on the left side to Robbie Findley. Findley then played the ball back to Johnson, who crossed into the United area where Yura Movsisyan and Olave were making runs. The ball went just over Movsisyan's head to Olave, who skied over the defense and powered a header off United goalkeeper Louis Crayton and into the net.

Morales made it 2-1 10 minutes from time when Johnson found Kyle Beckerman in the offensive third. The rugged midfielder then played a ball into the area to Findley, who flicked a pass to Morales for the blast.

RSL (2-1-0) is back in action next Saturday when it travels across the country to take on the New York Red Bulls, while United hosts New England a day earlier in its next league fixture.
