Final Score: Chivas USA 2, Columbus 1

Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA earned its third win of the season on Sunday night at the Home Depot Center vs. the Columbus Crew, 2-1.

With the win, the Goats (3-0-0) were able to keep pace with the expansion Seattle Sounders FC in the Western table.

Chivas USA got the game's first goal just 25 minutes in when Gerson Mayen drove past Crew winger Eddie Gaven on the left side and into the penalty area before playing a low cross to Atiba Harris in the box. The St. Kitts and Nevis international then one-timed the ball into the net with his toe for his first goal of the season.

About 12 minutes later the Crew were able to equalize on an Andy Iro tally. The play was started by a Guillermo Barros Schelotto corner kick. After the ball was cleared away by the Chivas defense, Emmanuel Ekpo played it back into the penalty area, where it deflected off Alejandro Moreno before Iro knocked the loose ball home for his second-career MLS goal.

That was how the score stayed until about five minutes after the break when a Sacha Kljestan free kick was headed off the post by Harris. Eduardo Lillingston then knocked in the rebound for his second goal of the season to close out the scoring.

Iro was given a red card for a hard tackle on Carey Tally four minutes later, forcing the Crew to play a man down the rest of the game and effectively ending any comeback hopes.

Chivas USA will play Los Angeles rivals, the L.A. Galaxy, next Saturday in the SuperClasico, while Columbus (0-2-2) hosts Colorado the same day in its next league fixture.
