Final Score: Colorado 3, Los Angeles 2

Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Conor Casey scored early and late for the Colorado Rapids as they topped the Los Angeles Galaxy, 3-2, at The Home Depot Center on Saturday night.

Casey scored the second fastest goal in Major League Soccer history to start the game - just 17 second in - to give the Rapids the early lead before also adding two second-half goals, including the game-winner in the last 10 minutes, to lead his side to the important road victory.

The Rapids (2-1-0) caught the Galaxy sleeping to start the game, with a long- ball from the back, over the top to the right side to Omar Cummings. The forward then played a ball across the penalty area to Casey, who knocked it home for the 1-0 lead.

That was how the score stayed until Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez scored the equalizer in the 37th minute by heading home a Landon Donovan corner kick. It was the 6-foot-5 rookie's first MLS goal.

Los Angeles (0-1-1) went ahead for the first time in the game three minutes after the break when Sean Franklin started an attack by penetrating into the offensive third. The second-year defender then played a through-ball to Donovan in the penalty area, and after three defenders collapsed around the U.S. international, he played a square ball to Alan Gordan, who had an easy tap-in to make it 2-1.

But the Rapids caught the Galaxy defense sleeping again on the ensuing kickoff as Cummings found Casey wide-open behind the defense. The big forward buried the chance for his second goal of the game to tie it at two with 40 minutes to play.

The Rapids were given a huge advantage about 10 minutes later by referee Michael Kennedy when he showed Dema Kovalenko a straight red card for a hard tackle on Rapids midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy. Kovalenko's ejection forced the Galaxy to play down a man for the final half-hour, crippling their chance of earning a positive result.

Colorado was finally able to take advantage of its extra man in the 84th minute when Colin Clark stuffed Franklin in the defensive half, burst up the left sideline and played a perfectly weighted pass to Casey breaking in on goal. Casey then deked around L.A. goalkeeper Josh Saunders, who didn't make a single save in the game, and tapped the ball into the net to complete the hat trick and close out the scoring.

The Galaxy will try to earn their first win of the season next Saturday when they host L.A. rival Chivas USA in the SuperClasico, while Colorado plays at Columbus the same day in its next league fixture.
