Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Earthquakes earned their first
win of the Major league Soccer season on Saturday night, topping the Houston
Dynamo, 3-2 at Buck Shaw Stadium.
All five of the wild game's goals were scored in the last 15 minutes of the
first half, with Arturo Alvarez and Cam Weaver each adding a goal and an
Ryan Johnson opened the scoring for San Jose at the Half hour mark to make it
1-0 before Alvarez doubled the home side's lead just three minutes later.
But the Dynamo pulled one back on the ensuing rush when midfielder Stuart
Holden controlled the ball on the right side, and fired a cross into the area
to Chris Wondolowski, who headed home to make it 2-1.
Less than two minutes later Houston equalized when the ball pin-balled off the
San Jose defense out to Houston winger brad Davis at the top of the penalty
area. Davis then ripped a left-footed laser into the left corner to make it
Weaver broke the deadlock by scoring the game-winner in the 44th minute when
he took a Darren Huckerby pass in the penalty area and lifted it over Houston
goalkeeper Pat Onstad for his first career MLS goal.
