Description: Redskins tight end Chris Cooley will retire from football, according to the Washington Post.
Insight: Cooley was a fantasy-worthy tight end from 2005-2008 averaging 785 yards and 5.5 touchdowns per season over the span, but bad knees forced him to watch most games from the sidelines between 2009-2012.

Description: Free agent tight end Chris Cooley is expected to re-sign with the Washington Redskins later this week according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
Insight: Cooley will be taking the place of Fred Davis, who tore his Achilles Sunday in a loss to the Giants. Cooley had a brilliant 77-catch, 849-yard season in 2010 before being limited to five games last season because of injuries. It will be interesting to see what the nine-year veteran can contribute upon his return to Washington.

Description: Washington tight end Chris Cooley was released on Tuesday.
Insight: Cooley was no longer a fantasy option due to injuries and the arrival of Fred Davis. He could still land a job somewhere in the NFL, but it's highly unlikely that he'll have any fantasy value.

8/2/2012 10:27:00 PM
Description: According to the Washington Examiner, one longtime coach said he would be surprised if Chris Cooley (knee) made it through the first week of training camp.
Insight: Cooley is no longer a fantasy option and he may no longer be an NFL player come September due to his knee troubles.

Description: Redskins tight end Chris Cooley admits that he's lost some speed.
Insight: Cooley, once a top fantasy tight end who guaranteed his owner 750 yards and seven TDs, is rehabbing from knee surgery. He's no longer the best tight end on the Redskins roster (Fred Davis) and might even struggle to make the team if his speed doesn't return.

Description: Redskins tight end Chris Cooley said Monday that he hopes to begin on-field work next week. SOURCE: CSN WASHINGTON
Insight: Cooley says he hasn't experienced any recent swelling and "can't imagine not playing" in Week 1. He had the knee drained a week ago and has not run in two weeks. Cooley remains a red flag on fantasy draft day, especially with Fred Davis impressing in camp.

Insight: He should be ready for week one, but there's always the possibility that this could be a reoccurring injury. Without surgery, he's hoping rest will heal the injury. That's quite the gamble with Fred Davis having a solid camp.

Description: Redskins HC Mike Shanahan confirmed that TE Chris Cooley won't play in the pre-season and could be out for Week 1 of the regular season. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Cooley is still having issues with his surgically-repaired knee and just can't get it feeling right. Fred Davis is more than capable of handling the load if called up, but we still can't rank him higher than Cooley just yet.

1/7/2011 3:01:00 PM
Description: The Washington Post reports Cooley revealed he played the entire 2010 season with a torn meniscus in his knee.
Insight: The injury apparently occured when teammate Todd Yoder's wife kicked him in a limo. In any case, he should be fine for the start of the 2011 season (assuming there is one). (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Redskins TE Chris Cooley is expected to undergo a knee scope January 13. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Cooley revealed the surgery after the loss to the Giants, but it should have no affect on his status for offseason activities. Cooley will be a TE1 again in 2011, but we do worry regarding his lack of touchdowns. After catching eight scores in 2007, he's only scored six in the last three seasons.

Description: Redskins TE Chris Cooley admitted that he was "embarrassed" after dropping the ball so many times against the Jaguars. SOURCE: CSN WASHINGTON
Insight: Cooley dropped an easy touchdown catch on first-and-goal, along with three other misses in the first half. Cooley still had five catches for 48 yards, but he didn't help his owners or Rex Grossman owners Sunday.

12/27/2010 10:04:00 AM
Description: CSN Washington reports Cooley is embarrased by his case of the "yips" against Jacksonville on Sunday.
Insight: Cooley dropped four passes in the game, including an easy touchdown. He did still get 11 targets from QB Rex Grossman in though, which could bode well for Week 17 against the Giants if he can correct his issue. (RapidDraft.com)

12/26/2010 2:11:00 PM
Description: Early in the first quarter in Week 16 vs. Jacksonville, Redskins TE Chris Cooley dropped an easy one-yard TD pass from Rex Grossman.
Insight: Grossman would find TE Fred Davis two plays later, so the Redskins still got their TD, but Cooley owners just vomited in their mouths after watching that.

12/16/2010 9:23:00 AM
Description: Redskins TE Chris Cooley and OC Kyle Shanahan met this week regarding Cooley's desire to get the ball more going forward. SOURCE: WASHINGTON POST
Insight: Cooley didn't end up catching a pass until late in the fourth quarter against the Buccaneers last week. We think he should still be a fine option against the Cowboys.

12/15/2010 11:05:00 PM
Description: The Washington Post reports Cooley met with Redskins' offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to make it clear he wants the ball more going forward.
Insight: Cooley had just two catches against Tampa Bay in Week 14, which is his season-low. (RapidDraft.com)

12/6/2010 10:05:00 AM
Description: Cooley had six receptions for 61 yards against the Giants on Sunday.
Insight: Cooley has not found the end zone a lot this season, but is still a solid fantasy option. (RapidDraft.com)

11/29/2010 11:01:00 AM
Description: Cooley had five catches for 49 yards against the Vikings on Sunday.
Insight: Cooley is a solid fantasy option most every week, especially in a thin year at TE. (RapidDraft.com)

11/22/2010 12:02:00 PM
Description: Cooley had seven receptions for 91 yards against the Titans on Sunday.
Insight: Cooley has been a little banged up, but continues to be a primary target for Donovan McNabb. (RapidDraft.com)
