Description: Hines Ward has officially announced his retirement.
Insight: Ward was a better football player than fantasy player because his ability to block for the running game isn't measured in fantasy games. He finished his career with 1,000 receptions, 12,083 yards and 85 receiving touchdowns.

Description: Hines Ward (concussion-like symptoms) should be good to go this week, according to coach Mike Tomlin. Source: Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Insight: Ward took a nasty helmet to helmet hit by Ray Lewis and didn't return. He's passed his concussion tests and looks ready for week 10. We don't think there's much upside here, as Antonio Brown has stepped his game up over the last few weeks.

Description: Hines Ward has officially been ruled out for Week 8 against the Patriots. Source: Albert Breer via Twitter
Insight: Mike Wallace is obviously a must-start this week and Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders become a very high upside WR play against the Patriots porous pass defense.

Description: Ravens safety Ed Reed has publicly criticized the tactics of Hines Ward for years and he revealed last week that he's even criticized the Pittsburgh wide receiver to his face. SOURCE: BALTIMORE SUN
Insight: "I love Hines as a player and I told him that," Reed said last week at his football camp. 'But I told him also for a long time, '?You're a dirty player because I know how you play.'' Reed and Ward have led the charge when it comes to this physical AFC North rivalry.

Description: Steelers WR Hines Ward is expected to undergo surgery on his left knee and left thumb next week. SOURCE: PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE
Insight: Ward was bothered by cartilage damage in his knee all season and he is expected to get ligament damage repaired in his thumb. At 35 years of age, Ward is clearly starting to break down. He will be nothing more than a low-end WR3 in 2011. Emmanuel Sanders will push him for playing time.

2/2/2011 3:37:00 PM
Description: Steelers WR Hines Ward said he would welcome former Steelers WR Plaxico Burress back to the team "with open arms." SOURCE: NEWARK STAR-LEDGER
Insight: He's due to be released from prison on his illegal gun possession conviction this summer, and is expected to attempt a comeback. Ward said at Super Bowl XLV Media Day today, "For Plax to come back with the Steelers and help us win another Super Bowl, that would be a great story."

1/31/2011 12:05:00 PM
Description: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Ward says he has no plans to retire.
Insight: Ward's 13th season produced his smallest totals for receptions and receiving yards since 2000 and his fewest touchdowns since 2004, but he didn't exactly turn useless. He'll remain a decent WR3 for fantasy in 2011. (RapidDraft.com)

1/27/2011 12:26:00 PM
Description: Steelers WR Hines Ward backed off his pledge from last April that if the Steelers won Super Bowl XLV, he would retire, instead saying he "really (hasn't) thought about it." SOURCE: PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Insight: Set to turn 35 in March, Ward saw a decreased number in receptions, yards and touchdown catches from 2009. Some of that is due to age, but Mike Wallace stepped up this year and No. 3 receiver Emmanuel Sanders showed flashes here and there. Ward's days as a legit fantasy option are likely gone.

1/17/2011 11:03:00 AM
Description: Ward has scored in two straight games after a stretch of six complete games without a trip to the end zone.
Insight: Ward's fantasy case doesn't look hopeful for the Jets matchup after he caught just two passes for 34 yards in the first meeting. He'll have to hope that the Jets send Darrelle Revis chasing after speedster Mike Wallace. (RapidDraft.com)

1/4/2011 1:03:00 AM
Description: Ward caught five passes for 45 yards and a touchdown in Cleveland on Sunday.
Insight: It was the first touchdown since Week 9 for the veteran receiver who finally seems to be winding down. If Ward returns in 2011, he could see more playing time go to youngster Emmanuel Sanders. (RapidDraft.com)

12/13/2010 12:01:00 PM
Description: Ward caught eight passes for 115 yards in Sunday's victory, his third 100-yard game since Ben Roehthlisberger's return from season-opening suspension.
Insight: Ward's 2010 production has run very hot and cold. We'll see what he can manage against the tough Jets corners. (RapidDraft.com)

12/2/2010 12:03:00 AM
Description: After three straight three-catch games (with one injury-shortened outing mixed in), Ward matched his season high of seven catches on Sunday in Buffalo and reached 100 yards for the third time.
Insight: Ward doesn't bring the upside of Mike Wallace because of the young guy's speed, but the veteran has been targeted more often when healthy. He's a solid fantasy play against a vulnerable Baltimore secondary. (RapidDraft.com)

11/18/2010 12:05:00 PM
Description: Coming off a concussion Sunday night, Steelers WR Hines Ward (concussion) fully participated in practice Wednesday. SOURCE: STEELERS.COM
Insight: Ward passed his concussion tests and will start against the Raiders. However, he is nothing more than a WR3 with Mike Wallace becoming the team's go-to receiver this year.

11/16/2010 4:50:00 PM
Description: According to Steelers HC Mike Tomlin, WR Hines Ward (concussion) is expected to play against the Raiders. SOURCE: SCOUT.COM
Insight: Ward's concussion seems very minor. He actually wanted to keep playing against the Patriots, but rules state players who suffer any degree of concussion can't return. Ward figures to be, at best, a WR3. He is clearly taking a back seat to Mike Wallace.

11/15/2010 12:02:00 PM
Description: Ward missed just about all of the Sunday night loss to New England after suffering a concussion early in the game.
Insight: Ward reportedly tried to get trainers to clear him to return but did not succeed. He would seem likely to come back for Week 11, but we'll have to see how he tests during the week. (RapidDraft.com)

11/15/2010 11:06:00 AM
Description: Despite suffering a concussion against the Patriots Sunday night, Steelers WR Hines Ward insists he will play Week Eleven against the Texans. SOURCE: PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Insight: Ward said he wanted to come back in Sunday night, but wasn't allowed. He will have to pass a series of concussion tests before being cleared to practice this week. It was a disappointing night for Ward owners, who got a big fat zero from him. The matchup against the Texans' secondary is a good one, so hopefully he will be good to go.

11/15/2010 1:09:00 AM
Description: Steelers WR Hines Ward suffered an apparent concussion and neck injury in Sunday nights Week 10 game vs. New England and left the game in the 1st quarter, never returning.
Insight: Ward took a big shot to the helmet from James Sanders and was very wobbly coming off the field. Officially it's been called a "neck injury" but it's hard to believe he didn't suffer a concussion. Ward pleaded with trainers to come back on the field but they absolutely refused.

10/24/2010 7:09:00 PM
Description: Steelers WR Hines Ward caught seven passes for 131 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 7 win over the Dolphins. Just another day at the office.
Insight: It was his first 100-yard game since back in Week 1, but it's definitely not going to be his last now that Ben Roethlisberger is back. Ward will be a must-start weekly WR2/WR3 option from here going forward.

9/26/2010 11:03:00 PM
Description: Ward caught three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown in beating the Bucs on Sunday.
Insight: The touchdown saved it from being a poor fantasy day, but it's probably not enough to elevate Ward out of buy-low territory. It's worth checking into the asking price before Ben Roethlisberger returns. (RapidDraft.com)

9/20/2010 2:02:00 PM
Description: Ward caught just one pass for 9 yards in Sunday's Steelers victory. The team only attempted 17 throws in all.
Insight: Week 1 was much kinder to Ward, but it appears fantasy owners should hope for Byron Leftwich to be brought back to start in Week 3. (RapidDraft.com)
