Description: As expected, Chargers running back Danny Woodhead has become quarterback Philip Rivers' primary target out of the backfield, according to a Chris Jenkins of the Union-Tribune San Diego.
Insight: Starter Ryan Mathews caught 111 passes over his first three seasons, but that number is likely to take a significant hit in 2013-14. The image of Darren Sproles catching passes and running behind Rivers comes to mind and Woodhead could be a solid fantasy value this season.

Description: Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune said he'd be "shocked" if running back Danny Woodhead doesn't play the "vast majority" of third downs for the Chargers this season.
Insight: This comes after ESPN's AFC West blogger Bill Williamson said he expected Woodhead to be involved in a variety of offensive packages. The team does not trust Ryan Mathews as a pass blocker, which explains why Ronnie Brown received so much playing time last season. Woodhead is one of the best pass-blocking backs in the NFL, and also has good hands. He could be a nice flex player in PPR leagues.

Description: ESPN.com's AFC West blogger Bill Williamson expected running back Danny Woodhead to be involved in a lot of offensive packages this season.
Insight: Woodhead rushed for 301 yards and caught 40 passes for 446 yards with seven total touchdowns for the Patriots last season. Given Ryan Mathews' injury-plagued history, Woodhead could find himself with more opportunities with the Chargers. Matthews barely played on third down last season.

Description: Former Patriots running back Danny Woodhead has signed a two-year deal with the Chargers.
Insight: Woodhead had 747 yards from scrimmage, seven touchdowns and 40 receptions last season. He'll serve as San Diego's third-down back and could provide decent value in PPR leagues considering Ronnie Brown had 49 catches in that role last season.

Description: Patriots' running back Danny Woodhead has been upgraded to probable for the AFC Championship on Sunday against Baltimore. He's dealing with an injured thumb which he suffered early in Sunday's game against the Texans.
Insight: Woodhead is usually used as a slot receiver and an occasional change of pace back out of the backfield, but the Patriots used Shane Vereen after Woodhead's injury and he thrived in the role with a total of 124 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.

Description: Patriots running back Danny Woodhead is questionable for the AFC Championship on Sunday against Baltimore with an injured thumb which he suffered early in Sunday's game against the Texans.
Insight: Woodhead is usually used as a slot receiver and an occasional change of pace back out of the backfield. With the injury to Woodhead and tight end Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots used running back Shane Vereen in a variety of new ways and he thrived with a total of 124 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.

Description: Patriots running back Danny Woodhead injured his thumb early in Sunday's game against the Texans. His return is questionable.
Insight: Woodhead is usually used as a slot receiver and an occasional change of pace halfback out of the backfield. Shane Vereen will have to pick up the slack if Woodhead is unable to return.

Description: Woodhead's 14 carries in Sunday's loss marked a season-high. His 46 yards, however, came up lower than five of his regular-season totals.
Insight: Woodhead was a fantasy revelation in 2010 and is sure to be drafted in 2011, with his position likely varying widely. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Patriots RB/WR Danny Woodhead was hit hard in the head on a run up the middle (Week 17), fumbled, and took a while to get up. He's been taken out of the game for precautionary reasons.
Insight: It's his first fumble of the year and the Pats first turnover in eight games. Amazing. Woodhead likely won't return because there are signs of a concussion, plus, they want him fully ready for the playoffs in two weeks.

Description: Woodhead ran for 93 yards and a touchdown, adding three catches for 32 more yards.
Insight: Has there really been a more unlikely helpful fantasy option to emerge this season? Woodhead couldn't have landed in a better situation after the Jets dumped him. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: The Patriots and RB Danny Woodhead have agreed to a two-year contract extension. SOURCE: BOSTON HERALD
Insight: Woodhead will now earn $550,000 in 2011 and $700,000 in 2012, along with incentives that could earn him another $1.175 million. It's a good deal for the Patriots, who have gotten a lot out of Woodhead since signing him back in mid-September. Woodhead will likely never have any true fantasy value, but he is a stash in larger leagues because of his versatility.

10/5/2010 2:01:00 AM
Description: Woodhead carried eight times in the Monday night win and caught an 11-yard touchdown pass. It was his second score in two weeks.
Insight: Woodhead is quickly proving to be a valuable contributor for the Patriots. He'll be tough to use in fantasy -- possibly always -- but is at least a very intriguing player to watch. (RapidDraft.com)

9/27/2010 12:02:00 AM
Description: Woodhead carried three times for 42 yards on Sunday, including a 22-yard touchdown.
Insight: Woodhead, who played both running back and receiver with the Jets, is just the kind of versatile player that always seems to find a home in New England. He's unlikely to find enough touches to be a fantasy factor, though. (RapidDraft.com)
