Description: The Dodgers have released minor league catcher Miguel Olivo. SOURCE: Jesse Sanchez, MLB.com
Insight: Olivo got in a fight with teammate Alex Guerrero and wound up biting part of Guerrero's ear off. The veteran hit .217 in eight games for the Dodgers earlier this year.

4/23/2013 11:23:00 AM
Description: Marlins part-time catcher Miguel Olivo should get the start on Tuesday, weather permitting, as he's a career .600 hitter versus Minnesota right-hander Kevin Correia with a 1.736 OPS.
Insight: Olivo was a fantasy disappointment last season and has done little this season, although he does have three hits in his last five at-bats and a favorable matchup. If he's in the lineup he's worth a flier.

Description: Marlins part-time catcher Miguel Olivo should get the start on Monday as he's a career .600 hitter versus Minnesota right-hander Kevin Correia with a 1.736 OPS.
Insight: Olivo was a fantasy disappointment last season and has done little this season, although he does have three hits in his last five at-bats and a favorable matchup. If he's in the lineup he's worth a flier.

10/24/2012 5:47:00 PM
Description: Seattle didn't pick up catcher Miguel Olivo's option for next season.
Insight: Though he hits for a low average, Olivo has usually provided fantasy owners with decent power numbers. This year he failed to do that, smacking just 12 homers in 315 at bats. At age 34, it looks like Olivo's best fantasy years are behind him. Feel free to forget about him in next season's fantasy draft.

8/31/2012 9:33:00 PM
Description: Catcher Miguel Olivo will have the night off Friday when the Mariners open their series with the Angels.
Insight: Olivo's production (.213, 9 HR, 24 RBI) is way down from last year when he recorded 19 long balls and 62 RBI in 130 games. Jesus Montero (.257, 14 HR, 52 RBI) is getting the start at catcher tonight for Seattle.

8/26/2012 11:28:00 AM
Description: Seattle catcher Miguel Olivo has been awful against Chicago starter Gavin Floyd during his career. In 13 at bats, Olivo is hitting just .154 with five strikeouts.
Insight: Olivo hasn't had a strong year at the plate anyway (.219, 9 HR, 24 RBI in 69 games). Leave him on your bench Sunday against Floyd (9-9, 4.56 ERA).

8/17/2012 9:55:00 AM
Description: Mariners catcher Miguel Olivo is only a spot starter these days, but he's a .476 career hitter (10-for-21) against Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn with three homers and a 1.571 OPS.
Insight: The Mariners are going with offensively superior Jesus Montero (.266, 12 HRs, 46 RBIs) and John Jaso (.286, 7 HR, 36 RBI) at catcher most of the time, but if you see Olivo's name in the starting lineup, take advantage of this matchup.

6/19/2012 8:56:00 PM
Description: Mariners catcher Miguel Olivo is out again Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks.
Insight: The Mariners are going with the offensively superior Jesus Montero (.266, 8 HRs, 28 RBIs) at catcher again on Tuesday. It looks like we won't be seeing much of Olivo (.211, 5 HRs, 15 RBIs) until interleague play is over.

6/18/2012 8:29:00 PM
Description: Mariners catcher Miguel Olivo is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game versus Arizona.
Insight: Olivo (.212, 5 HRs, 15 RBIs) hasn't had a particularly strong month (.250, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs) but it's better than what he was doing in May (.133, 0 HRs, 2 RBIs).

Cold6/4/2012 10:42:00 AM
Description: Seattle catcher Miguel Olivo is just a .176 hitter (3-for-17) against Angels starter Ervin Santana with six strikeouts.
Insight: Olivo (.202, 4 HR, 11 RBI) has not shown the power he displayed in Kansas City or Colorado. At this point he's not worthy of a spot in any fantasy lineup.

5/24/2012 4:24:00 PM
Description: Miguel Olivo has been activated from the 15-day disabled list. He was out with a strained groin.
Insight: Olivo (.210, 3 HRs, 7 RBIs) will resume his role as the team's starting catcher with Jesus Montero (.257, 6 HRs, 22 RBIs) shifting back to full-time designated hitter duty.

5/1/2012 4:54:00 PM
Description: Seattle catcher Miguel Olivo has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin.
Insight: Olivo has some power, but it's tough to exploit that when he plays half his games in Seattle. He's batting .210 this season with three homers and seven RBI. Yes, he could hit 20 HR this season, but that might only net you 45 RBI.

Cold4/18/2012 10:44:00 AM
Description: Seattle catcher Miguel Olivo is 3-for-19 against veteran Derek Lowe with seven strikeouts.
Insight: Olivo should not be in your fantasy lineup for now. He's batting just .111 at the beginning of the season and is a career .158 hitter against Lowe. Don't try to buck two trends at once, that's a formula for disaster.

Cold4/11/2012 10:50:00 AM
Description: Seattle catcher Miguel Olivo is 0-for-14 against Colby Lewis with six strikeouts.
Insight: If you have been starting Olivo in your fantasy lineup, you should make other plans for Wednesday. His lifetime goose egg against Lewis plus a .125 batting average in the team's first six games screams put me on the bench.

4/6/2012 10:20:00 AM
Description: Miguel Olivo is a borderline fantasy catcher at best but his history versus Bartolo Colon should force you to sit him on Saturday.
Insight: Olivo is 1-for-11 against Colon with five strikeouts. Olivo did hit 19 homers and steal six bases last season, but the rest of his fantasy numbers were below average even for the weak catching position.

3/23/2011 5:50:00 AM
Description: Miguel Olivo will test his injured groin by catching three innings in a minor league game today. SOURCE: MLB
Insight: If he doesn't have any setbacks then he should be fine for opening day. But he will need to put his groin through a series of tests in the coming week.

3/22/2011 5:25:00 AM
Description: Miguel Olivo is almost recovered from the groin problems that has bothered him in spring training. SOURCE: MIAMI HERALD
Insight: He will be ready for the start of the regular season and is expected to handle a big workload this season.

3/7/2011 4:07:00 PM
Description: Mariners C Miguel Olivo was injured in Saturday's spring training game against Cleveland. An MRI shows a strained adductor muscle and there is no time table set for his return. SOURCE: WWW.ESPN.COM
Insight: This is bad news for an already poor M's team and hopefully Olivo will be able to return to action sooner than expected. He could have been a fantasy option in a deep league if it was one of your last positions to address but now he shouldn't even be on your radar.

3/5/2011 7:03:00 PM
Description: Miguel Olivo injured his groin in today's game and is going to need an MRI. SOURCE: MLB
Insight: We will likely know the extent of the injury tomorrow or Monday. Olivo is currently being drafted as a second catcher in mixed leagues.

12/9/2010 2:20:00 PM
Description: The Mariners have signed C Miguel Olivo to a 2-year deal. SOURCE: Jon Morosi via Twitter
Insight: Expect Oliva's stats to suffer since he will not be playing in a favorable hitter's oark in 2011.
