Insight: He'll get the nod Tuesday versus Cleveland. A spot opened up for Deduno Friday when the team placed struggling right-hander Mike Pelfrey (0-3, 7.99 ERA) on the DL with a strained groin.

Description: If Twins manager Ron Gardenhire does decide to drop Mike Pelfrey from the starting rotation, Samuel Deduno would be a candidate to take his place. SOURCE: MLBlogs.com
Insight: Deduno pitched well in 18 starts last season (8-8, 3.83 ERA) but he lost his spot when Minnesota revamped its rotation this offseason with the additions of Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes. Pelfrey (0-3, 7.99 ERA) is a sinking ship right now and we're guessing Deduno will get his chance sooner rather than later.

Insight: Deduno was already expected to miss the rest of this season but if surgery is necessary he may be sidelined for the start of the 2014 season as well. Deduno had lost four out of five before the injury (5.96 ERA in those starts).

Description: Twins starter Samuel Deduno's MRI revealed a problem with his labrum and rotator cuff, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
Insight: Deduno exited Thursday's start with shoulder soreness and went on the DL Friday. He'll see a shoulder specialist in Minnesota and is likely done for the year.

8/29/2013 4:07:00 PM
Description: Twins starter Samuel Deduno exited Thursday's game with right shoulder soreness, according to Lavelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune.
Insight: Deduno threw 71 pitches and allowed three runs over three innings before leaving the game. He has a 3.83 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP and 67 strikeouts in 108 innings, making him a marginal fantasy talent.

8/23/2013 10:12:00 PM
Description: Twins starter Samuel Deduno looked sharp Friday in a win against Cleveland (6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6 K's).
Insight: Deduno dealt with shoulder pain earlier in the week but it didn't seem to affect him on Friday night. The win snapped a three-game slide for Deduno, who is now 8-7 for the season. He'll make his next start Thursday against Kansas City.

8/23/2013 11:39:00 AM
Description: Minnesota righthander Samuel Deduno is listed as questionable for Friday's scheduled start against Cleveland.
Insight: Deduno threw a bullpen session on Wednesday without incident and is expected to start. He's struggled in his last three starts giving up at least four earned runs in each and fantasy owners should avoid him until he turns it around.

Hot7/27/2013 7:52:00 PM
Description: Minnesota righthander Samuel Deduno tossed seven scoreless frames Saturday against the Mariners.
Insight: The Mariners have been on a hot streak (15-8 record this month) so Deduno deserves props for shutting them down. Though he started the year in the minors, Deduno (3.18 ERA) has become an integral part of the Twins' rotation, winning seven of 12 starts since his call-up.

7/13/2013 9:05:00 PM
Description: Twins right-hander Samuel Deduno is 5-4 with a 3.61 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP through 10 starts.
Insight: Deduno beat the Yankees with seven one-run innings Saturday. He only has 31 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings this season, so he can be ignored outside of AL-only leagues.

6/15/2013 10:25:00 PM
Description: Twins right-hander Samuel Deduno limited Detroit to two runs on seven hits over seven innings Saturday in a 6-3 Twins victory.
Insight: Deduno has gone 3-1 with a 3.26 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP in five starts since being called up from Triple-A. He'll likely get Cleveland on the road in his next start.

5/30/2013 9:40:00 AM
Description: Twins right-hander Samuel Deduno tossed seven innings and allowed one earned run on four hits Wednesday against the Brewers to grab his first victory of the year.
Insight: Deduno broke out during the World Baseball Classic, allowing just one run and posting a 17/5 K/BB in 13 innings to help the Dominican Republic win the tournament. He allowed six runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings in his first start this season, but since it came against the Tigers we're willing to give him a pass. He's worth owning in AL-only leagues.

5/21/2013 4:25:00 PM
Description: The Twins will recall Samuel Deduno from Triple-A Rochester to start Friday's game against the Tigers.
Insight: Deduno broke out during the World Baseball Classic, allowing just one run and posting a 17/5 K/BB in 13 innings to help the Dominican Republic win the tournament. He went 6-5 with a 4.44 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP in 79 innings last year and shouldn't have much fantasy value outside AL-only leagues.

8/30/2012 9:19:00 AM
Description: Righthander Samuel Deduno came up big Wednesday night in Minnesota's 10-0 win over the Mariners at Target Field.
Insight: Deduno (5-2, 3.72 ERA) allowed just two hits over seven shutout frames, reaching a career-high nine strikeouts. He'll be back to pitch on Monday against the White Sox.

8/2/2012 10:09:00 PM
Description: Twins starter Samuel Deduno held the Red Sox scoreless on just two hits over six innings Thursday to improve to 3-0.
Insight: Deduno has been effectively wild in his five starts this season, recording a 19/20 K/BB ratio in 29 innings but also putting up a 2.48 ERA. AL-only owners can take note of Deduno's performance, but mixed leaguers can steer clear as this is likely a mirage.

7/29/2012 10:21:00 AM
Description: Twins starter Samuel Deduno surrendered just one run on two hits in seven innings of work Saturday against the Indians. Deduno allowed five walks but he also had six strikeouts.
Insight: He's 2-0 with a 3.13 ERA in four starts this season and might be worth taking a look at in deeper leagues.
