Description: Taveras is in a deep slump. He has no hits in his last 24 at bats.
Insight: Taveras' value comes from steals but he can't steal if he doesn't get on base. He doesn't even have a walk in his last ten games. Bench him for now but if he starts to lose playing time, cut him loose. (

Description: Taveras had one of those dreaded extra inning games in which he went 0-for-7. His average fell from .312 to .295.
Insight: Taveras had been excellent in May until the last two days. Perhaps he just doesn't like playing at Safeco Field and will be back to his slap hitting ways after this series. (
Steady12/28/2008 10:01:00 AM
Description: As had been rumored, the Reds signed Taveras to a two-year deal.
Insight: Taveras led the majors with 68 steals last year and the Reds should offer him plenty of playing time with Corey Patterson and Ryan Freel out of the way. The speedy center fielder hit just .251 last year and at just 26 years old is probably not old enough to get consistent at bats from Reds' manager Dusty Baker. He nevertheless offers a nice fantasy value. (
