Description: Baltimore lefthander Brian Matusz had surgery to repair a muscle tear in his abdomen last month according to MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli.
Insight: Matusz struggled as a starter (5-10, 5.42 ERA in 16 starts) but was able to find his niche in the Orioles' bullpen late in the season (1-0, 1.35 in 18 appearances). He should be ready for spring training.

Description: Orioles SP Brian Matusz has been scratched from Wednesday's start against Pittsburgh with a nose contusion. He's been confirmed to start Friday against Atlanta.
Insight: Matusz was hit in the nose during a bunting drill Tuesday but he was initially confirmed for his start Wednesday. We wouldn't use Matusz Friday at Atlanta, as the Baltimore lefty is 3-3 with a 5.01 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in six road starts this season.

Description: Orioles SP Brian Matusz was hit in the nose during a bunting drill Tuesday and is questionable for his start Wednesday.
Insight: The Orioles will make a decision on Matusz' availability for Wednesday after evaluating him Tuesday night. Baltimore is lucky to avoid a situation like Pittsburgh had with A.J. Burnett. The Pirates right-hander broke an orbital bone during a bunting drill in the preseason and had to miss several weeks of action.

Description: Matusz is expected to miss at least the first month of the season with an intercostal strain that has landed him on the DL.

Description: Brian Matusz (intercostal strain) has been placed on the DL. Chris Tillman will start today and prized prospect Zach Britton will start on Sunday. SOURCE:MLB
Insight: This is very disappointing for Matusz owners since many of them reached for him, predicting a breakout season. Now they will have to wait. Britton was dominant in spring training and can be added to the bench in deeper leagues right away.
