Description: Dr. James Andrews says Mets starter Jeremy Hefner needs Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. SOURCE: Andy Martino, New York Daily News
Insight: We figured as much when Hefner was diagnosed with a partially torn UCL earlier this month. His teammate Matt Harvey might need the same surgery.

Description: Mets starter Jeremy Hefner has been placed on the disabled list.
Insight: Hefner is dealing with a partially torn MCL in his right elbow. He was sent down to Triple-A on Sunday so this won't affect many fantasy rosters.

Description: The Mets are sending righthander Jeremy Hefner down to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Insight: Hefner got off to a nice start but he's 0-2 with a 9.13 ERA in his last five outings. New York Post reporter Mike Puma suspects Hefner, who has been struggling with elbow soreness for some time now, will probably end up on the disabled list.

Description: Mets starter Jeremy Hefner gave up as many runs Friday against the Phillies (8) as he had allowed in his previous six starts combined.
Insight: Hefner went 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA in his final 10 starts of the first half, but Philadelphia tagged him for 10 hits and eight runs in just two innings Friday.

Description: Mets starter Jeremy Hefner has thrown a quality start in eight of his last nine outings and not allowed more than three earned runs in any of them.
Insight: Hefner was 0-5 with a 5.00 ERA after his start on May 18, but he has gone 4-1 with a 2.09 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP over his last nine turns. The right-hander gave up just two hits and one run while fanning eight over seven innings Sunday at Milwaukee to drop his ERA for the season down to 3.39.

Description: Mets starter Jeremy Hefner allowed four hits and one run, walked one and struck out seven in seven innings Tuesday against the Nationals.
Insight: He was headed for his second win of the season but Bobby Parnell blew his third save. Hefner has thrown three straight quality starts and posted a 19/3 K/BB in that span. He's 1-5 with a 4.36 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.

4/30/2013 9:41:00 PM
Description: New York starter Jeremy Hefner took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday at Miami but the Mets surrendered two runs in the inning.
Insight: Hefner allowed a leadoff single to Chris Coghlan and was removed after a passed ball and a fielder's choice left men on first and third with nobody out. Reliever Brandon Lyon then gave up a tying single and threw a wild pitch that led to the winning run scoring. That makes two straight strong starts for Hefner, but he is still winless on the season.

Description: New York starter Jeremy Hefner turned in his best outing of the season Thursday against the Dodgers.
Insight: He scattered three hits and one run over seven innings. Hefner (0-2, 5.14 ERA) certainly has potential but he still has work to do if he wants to become a household name.

Description: Mets starter Jeremy Hefner turned in a strong effort Wednesday against the Pirates, striking out seven and allowing just three hits in seven scoreless innings of work.
Insight: It was a nice outing but remember, this is the same pitcher who gave up seven runs without getting an out last week versus the Phillies. Hefner (3-7, 5.32 ERA) hasn't shown us nearly enough consistency this season to be considered a realistic fantasy option.
