Description: Tampa Bay left-hander Erik Bedard tossed six shutout frames Friday in a win over Seattle.
Insight: Bedard, a player the Rays picked up off the scrap heap at the start of the year, has been surprisingly effective this season. In 11 games (ten starts), the 35-year-old is 3-4 with a 3.61 ERA. His next start is Wednesday against the Cardinals.

5/26/2014 10:35:00 PM
Description: Rays starter Erik Bedard gave up more hits Monday at Toronto than he did in his previous four starts combined.
Insight: Bedard gave up 12 hits and eight runs (seven earned) in four innings. The left-hander had allowed just three earned runs on 16 hits over 28 innings in his previous five starts. The Blue Jays have hit 22 homers off left-handers this season, most in baseball.

Hot5/10/2014 10:23:00 PM
Description: Rays starter Erik Bedard allowed just one hit in six scoreless innings Saturday against the Indians.
Insight: Bedard (2-1, 3.38 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) has given up 11 hits and two earned runs in his last 17 innings after recording a 7.45 ERA in his first three appearances. AL-only owners can give him a try his next time out on the road against the Angels, but his 17/14 K/BB in 26 2/3 innings spells doom.

4/12/2014 9:01:00 PM
Description: The Rays have promoted left-hander Erik Bedard to the major leagues.
Insight: Bedard allowed one run in four innings Monday in his only start for Triple-A Durham. He could wind up in Tampa Bay's starting rotation now that Matt Moore is slated for Tommy John surgery.

3/28/2014 7:40:00 PM
Description: The Rays have brought back Erik Bedard on a minor league deal.
Insight: Bedard opted out of his deal with the Rays earlier this week after failing to win the fifth spot in the rotation. He'll serve as depth for Tampa Bay should an injury strike.

Insight: Bedard was hoping to grab the fifth spot in Tampa's starting rotation but lost out to Jake Odorizzi. The 35-year-old hasn't finished a season with an ERA lower than four since 2011.

2/14/2014 9:59:00 AM
Description: Left-handed starter Erik Bedard has signed a minor-league deal with Tampa Bay.
Insight: Another team takes a shot at the talented, but never has reached his potential lefty. He hasn't recorded double-digit wins since 2007 and his ERA has been north of 4.50 over the past two seasons.

9/29/2013 7:01:00 PM
Description: Houston starter Erik Bedard held the Yankees scoreless in seven innings Sunday at Minute Maid Park.
Insight: Bedard collected nine strikeouts in the outing. The Astros weren't able to provide Bedard with any run support and lost 5-1 in 14 innings. The 34-year-old from Canada will close out the 2013 campaign with an ERA of 4.59 in 32 appearances.

7/31/2013 2:20:00 PM
Description: The Astros have scratched Erik Bedard from his start Wednesday but he hasn't been traded, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Brett Oberholtzer will make the start instead at Baltimore.
Insight: Bedard has lost all five starts this month but he has posted an ERA of 3.99 or lower in every month since May. Perhaps they are trying to save him for a home start -- he's 2-2 with a 2.79 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP at Minute Maid Park and 1-6 with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP on the road.

Description: Astros starter Erik Bedard asked to come out of the game Saturday against Seattle despite being just eight outs away from his first career no-hitter. SOURCE: Associated Press
Insight: "I've had three shoulder surgeries," Bedard told reporters after the game. "I'm not going over 110. I'd rather pitch a couple more years than face another batter." According to ESPN stats and information, Bedard is the first starter in 21 years to give up two or more runs without allowing a hit (minimum of six innings).

7/20/2013 10:13:00 PM
Description: In one of the more bizarre outcomes of the season, Houston lefthander Erik Bedard struck out ten and walked five over 6 1/3 hitless innings Saturday against the Mariners.
Insight: Yes, you read that correctly. Bedard exited the game with the no-hitter still in tact. Despite not allowing a hit, Bedard did allow three runs, though only one of the runs was earned (Jason Castro allowed two passed balls). Michael Saunders broke up the no-no with a two-run double in the seventh inning. That ended up being Seattle's only hit of the night. Even with just the one hit, the Mariners were able to win 4-2.

6/27/2013 10:43:00 AM
Description: Astros starter Erik Bedard has gone 3-1 with a 3.23 ERA over his last nine starts.
Insight: Bedard still has an ugly 4.44 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP, but at least he's progressed to the point where you can use him at Minute Maid Park, where he is 2-0 with a 2.48 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

Description: Astros lefthander Erik Bedard is heading back to the bullpen. SOURCE: Brian T. Smith, Houston Chronicle
Insight: Bedard began the season as a long relief man but Houston's lack of depth forced him to become a starter. He's 0-2 with a 9.98 ERA in five starts this season. Obviously, he has no fantasy value in either role.

3/31/2013 11:15:00 PM
Description: While Erik Bedard will serve as Houston's fifth starter this season, he ended up picking up a save in the season opener against Texas.
Insight: Bedard fired 3 1/3 scoreless one-hit innings in relief of Bud Norris in a game Houston won 8-2. With two days off this week, the Astros don't need Bedard to start until next weekend.

3/28/2013 1:58:00 PM
Description: Houston left-hander Erik Bedard has been named the team's fifth starter, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Bedard went 4-5 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.16 WHIP at PNC Park last season as a member of the Pirates, but 3-9 with a 6.98 ERA and 1.82 WHIP on the road. Moving away from PNC and to the American League won't help.

1/21/2013 10:20:00 PM
Description: Lefthander Erik Bedard has agreed to a minor league contract with Houston.
Insight: 2012 didn't go quite as planned for Bedard (7-14, 5.01 ERA in 24 starts before Pittsburgh released him in late August) but he was actually rather effective the season before, producing a 3.62 ERA in 24 starts for the Mariners and Red Sox in 2011. Bedard's not going to win a whole lot of games pitching for the Astros but he could post a respectable ERA if he can stay healthy.

8/28/2012 4:40:00 PM
Description: The Pirates released lefty Erik Bedard on Tuesday, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette. Kevin Correia will take his spot in the rotation.
Insight: Bedard had limited his struggles to the road for most of the season, but after he gave up six runs at PNC Park Sunday the team decided enough was enough.

8/6/2012 9:46:00 PM
Description: Pittsburgh left-hander Erik Bedard has been a completely different pitcher at home than on the road. His latest outing dropped his home ERA to 2.38 in 10 starts.
Insight: Bedard fired seven scoreless innings and held Arizona to just two hits to improve to 6-12 with a 4.53 ERA and 1.40 WHIP on the season. The left-hander has been terrible away from PNC Park, going 3-8 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 11 starts and should only be used at home.

7/23/2012 10:21:00 PM
Description: Pittsburgh lefthander Erik Bedard pitched brilliantly despite picking up his 11th loss of the season Monday night against the Cubs. In seven innings of work, Bedard surrendered just one run on two hits. He walked two while tying a season-high with 11 strikeouts.
Insight: After hitting a rough patch in June and early July (1-5, 7.34 ERA in seven starts), Bedard (5-11, 4.32) has fared much better in his past two outings, going 1-1 with a 0.66 ERA.

7/1/2012 6:14:00 PM
Description: Pirates starter Erik Bedard had another lackluster road start Sunday at St. Louis, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Insight: Hopefully you've learned by now to only start Bedard (4-9, 4.57 ERA) at PNC Park, where he is 2-2 with a 2.31 ERA in seven starts.
