Description: The Cubs inked closer Jose Veras to a one-year, $4 million deal on Tuesday. SOURCE: Enrique Rojas, ESPN Deportes
Insight: For Veras, it's his eighth team in the last four years. Veras won't have many save opportunities in Chicago but he's probably still worth looking at in the later rounds of most fantasy drafts.

Description: The Tigers won't pick up Jose Veras' team option for next season. SOURCE: Jason Beck, MLB.com
Insight: Veras came over from Houston at the trade deadline. He saw mixed results as Detroit's setup man, finishing with a 3.20 ERA in 25 appearances. Veras ended his season and quite possibly his career with the Tigers by giving up a series-clinching grand slam to Shane Victorino in Game 6 of the ALCS.

Description: New Tigers reliever Jose Veras isn't expected to take the closer job from Joaquin Benoit.
Insight: The Astros dealt Veras, who has recorded a 2.93 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 19 saves this season, to the Tigers Monday. Benoit has been tremendous, saving all 10 of his chances and posting a 1.50 ERA, so he'll hold onto the role for now.

Description: Astros closer Jose Veras put two men on base in a one-run game Wednesday against St. Louis, but he worked out of the jam to pick up his 16th save.
Insight: Fantasy owners have to be thrilled with Veras' production. He has saved 53.3 percent of Houston's victories this year and has a 3.71 ERA and a 10.1 K/9 in 34 innings. He's an obvious trade candidate for a contender looking for middle relief help, however, so enjoy him while he's still a member of the Astros.

Description: Astros manager Bo Porter said that Jose Veras is still the team's closer, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Veras has allowed four runs in his last three appearances and suffered two losses in that span. He's 0-4 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, eight saves in 11 chances and 23 strikeouts in 22 innings.

Description: Houston right-hander Jose Veras is the front-runner to be the team's full-time closer, according to the Astros' official website. "If you're going to take a chance on someone to be a first-time closer, that's the type of guy you want," manager Bo Porter said. "We do have other pitchers that will get an opportunity to pitch late in the game, whether it's [Rhiner] Cruz, who had a really good winter league, or [Hector] Ambriz. There are others who will get a look, but Veras has the experience right now and is the front-runner."
Insight: Veras has appeared in 327 games at the big league level but has just five saves with a 4.01 ERA. Houston still had 31 saves as a team last season despite losing 107 games, so Veras will certainly have value if he wins the job. But he might have a hard time keeping it if he walks 4.9 batters per nine innings like he has in his first 314 1/3 innings.
