(Monday, May 14th)

Final Score: Chicago 7, Detroit 5

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Dayan Viciedo crushed a two-run homer and added a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth as the White Sox came from behind to beat the Tigers, 7-5, in the opener of a two-game set at U.S. Cellular Field on Monday.

Viciedo finished with four RBI, Adam Dunn belted a two-run blast in the first and Addison Reed fired a scoreless ninth for his third save of the year to help the White Sox snap a brief two-game skid.

"This was a good win," said Chicago manager Robin Ventura. "It's against a good team in your division. Even though we got down three, we still have guys going up there fighting and grinding."

Zach Stewart (1-1) earned the victory after tossing three scoreless innings in relief of starter John Danks, who was charged with all five runs on nine hits in three-plus innings of work.

Luke Putkonen (0-2) took the loss as he surrendered three runs on four hits in just a third of an inning. Prince Fielder finished with three hits, including a two-run double for the Tigers, who have lost three of their last four games.

"I thought we swung the bats pretty good, we just didn't hold [Chicago's bats]," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.

Detroit jumped on Danks early as Andy Dirks worked a one-out walk and Miguel Cabrera followed with a single. Fielder then crushed a two-run double over the head of Alejandro De Aza in center before Delmon Young plated him with a double of his own to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Chicago quickly responded in the bottom half when De Aza smacked a leadoff single and Dunn followed two batters later with a towering shot over the bullpen in right to bring the White Sox within 3-2.

The Tigers used three singles to load the bases with one out in the third before Danks walked Jhonny Peralta on four pitches to give Detroit a 4-2 edge and Gerald Laird followed with a sac fly to make it a three-run margin.

After Alexei Ramirez singled to start the bottom of the fifth, Viciedo crushed his fourth homer of the season to bring the ChiSox back within a run at 5-4.

Chicago then jumped in front in the sixth by loading the bases on one-out singles from Alex Rios and A.J. Pierzynski before Ramirez walked.

Viciedo then gave the White Sox the lead with a single back up the middle to score Rios and Pierzynski before Brent Morel added an RBI single to give Chicago a 7-5 edge.
