BoSox activate Carp from DL

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Prior to Monday's commencement of a four- game series with the White Sox, the Boston Red Sox activated first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp from the 15-day disabled list.

Carp landed on the DL at the beginning of June with a broken right foot. In 33 games prior to the setback, the 28-year-old hit just .214 with five doubles and six RBI.

Carp appeared in seven rehab games with Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .238 (5- for-21) with a home run and three RBI.

To make room on the 25-man roster, the Sox optioned infielder Jonathan Herrera to the PawSox.

"That was a difficult conversation. We clearly view him as a major leaguer and expect he'll be back at some point," said Boston manager John Farrell after the move was made.

Herrera, 29, has appeared in 42 games for the Red Sox this season, batting .233 with nine RBI.
