Rays' Moore undergoes elbow surgery

St. Petersburg, FL ( - The Tampa Bay Rays announced Tuesday that standout pitcher Matt Moore's surgery to replace a torn ligament in his left elbow has taken place without any problems.

Moore opted to have the season-ending Tommy John procedure last week upon medical recommendations. An MRI taken on the 2013 All-Star's elbow earlier this month revealed a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament.

The 24-year-old initially complained of elbow pain after being forced to exit a start at Kansas City because of discomfort.

Moore amassed an outstanding 17-4 record with a 3.29 earned run average in 27 starts for the Rays last season, and was 0-2 with a 2.70 ERA through his two outings in 2014.
