Indians' Kluber lands on DL
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians placed pitcher Corey Kluber on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, one day after the right-hander turned in an outstanding start against the Detroit Tigers.
Kluber held the current AL Central leaders scoreless over 7 1/3 innings on Monday, but was left with a no-decision after closer Chris Perez allowed four runs in the ninth in an eventual 4-2 Cleveland loss.
The 27-year-old was diagnosed with a sprained right finger on Tuesday.
Monday's effort lowered Kluber's season earned run average to 3.54 to go along with a 7-5 record over 19 starts and two relief appearances. He's also recorded 116 strikeouts in 122 innings of work.
The Indians recalled pitcher Matt Langwell from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. The right-hander pitched five games in relief for the Tribe in June, posting a win and a 5.06 ERA through 5 1/3 innings.
In 34 games with the Clippers this season, Langwell has gone 3-3 with a 2.64 ERA and two saves.
