Brewers' Segura claims NL Player of the Week honor
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has been selected as the National League's Player of the Week for the period ending May 12.
The Dominican Republic native hit an NL-best .500 (10-for-20) over five games last week, while leading the majors in slugging percentage (.950) and on-base percentage (.545).
The 23-year-old also hit three doubles and clubbed a pair of homers last week and registered the first four-hit game of his career in a 13-7 loss to the Reds.
Others considered for the award were Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt, the Chicago Cubs' Anthony Rizzo, Philadelphia's Cliff Lee and Colorado's Jorge De La Rosa.
