GAME NOTES: The VCU Rams try to continue their winning ways tonight when they welcome the Rams of Rhode Island to the Siegel Center for an Atlantic 10 Conference clash.

Rhode Island has won just two of its last seven contests and is coming off last Saturday's 85-79 setback at Fordham, the third of the A-10's teams to don the Rams mascot. URI has not traveled well this season as they are just 2-8 as the visiting squad.

Meanwhile, VCU extended its home winning streak to 16 in a row with last Saturday's 81-70 triumph over Richmond. The Rams enter this game in search of their sixth straight win overall.

VCU holds a slim 3-2 edge in the all-time series with URI. This is the only scheduled meeting between these two teams during the 2013-14 regular season.

URI shot a healthy 50 percent from the floor in its last outing, but Fordham was 8-of-17 from the perimeter (.471) and put 85 points on the board -- third- most by a URI opponent this season. E.C. Matthews had a team-high 20 points to go along with three steals in the loss to pace five players in double figures for the Rams. Xavier Munford was next in line with 16 points, followed by Gilvydas Biruta with 14, Jarelle Reischel with 13, and Hassan Martin with 10 points and nine rebounds. Munford is the team's top scorer on the season with 16.8 ppg, and he is averaging 18.9 ppg in conference play.

VCU's trap game has continued to cause headaches for opponents, as they are +10.8 in scoring margin (76.8 ppg) and are among the nation's leaders with a +7.1 turnover margin and 19.3 turnovers forced per game. Treveon Graham leads the way with 15.6 ppg to go along with 6.7 rpg. Juvonte Reddic is averaging 12.2 points and a team-best 8.3 rebounds per tilt, while reserve Melvin Johnson rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.5 ppg. Against Richmond, Johnson scored 14 points off the bench to share team-high scoring honors with Briante Weber, who set the school record for steals with five on the day and has 260 for his career. Reddic notched his third straight double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 boards.

URI has lost eight of 10 on the road, while VCU has lost just four games all season. Expect the home team to extend its winning streak inside the Siegel Center.
