San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - C.J. Cooper had 20 points and five assists as the Texas-El Paso Miners beat the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners 61-51 in a Conference USA clash at the Convocation Center.
Cedrick Lang scored 12 points and John Bohannon brought down nine boards for the Miners (22-9, 12-4 C-USA), who have won two straight games.
Devon Agusi finished with 14 points for the Roadrunners (8-21, 4-12), who extended their losing streak to five games. Jordan Sims and George Matthews each cleared double digit rebounds with 11 and 10, respectively.
UTEP shot 39.1 percent from the field in the first period as it led 28-16 at the break. UTSA struggled and made 22.2 percent of its field goal tries in the frame.
The Miners connected on 48.3 percent of their field goal tries in the second frame to hold on for the win The Roadrunners got within five points with 3:19 left, but UTEP went on a 9-4 run to close out the game.
Despite the loss, UTSA held a slim 42-39 edge on the boards.
