Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Garret Covington scored 17 points on 5- of-7 shooting to go with nine rebounds, as the Western Illinois Leathernecks cruised past the IUPUI Jaguars 69-54 in a Summit League matchup at the Jungle.
Adam Link and Michael Ochereobia scored in double figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively, for the Leathernecks (9-12, 3-3 Summit). Mike Miklusak chipped in 10 points.
Ja'Rob McCallum registered 18 points and three steals for the Jaguars (5-18, 0-6), who have lost six straight games. Khufu Najee added 14 points while Mitch Patton tallied 10. Donovan Gibbs cleared seven boards.
Western Illinois made just 37.5 percent of its field goal attempts, but went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the first period, as it led 23-21 at the break. IUPUI shot 38.5 percent from the field, but failed to get to the stripe.
The Leathernecks drained 65.4 percent of their shots from the floor in the second half as they were able to coast to an easy win. With 4:24 remaining Western Illinois went on a 10-2 run to close out the game and assure the win.
Western Illinois cleaned up on the glass and held a 35-23 rebounding advantage.
