Fort Wayne, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 19 points from Luis Jacobo, the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons took down the IUPUI Jaguars, 90-75, in Summit League action at the Gates Sports Center.
For the Mastodons (16-6, 4-1 Summit), Pierre Bland filled the stat sheet with 16 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, while Steve Forbes also scored 16 points, Michael Kibiloski finished with 14 points and Mo Evans chipped in with 10.
Khufu Najee led the Jaguars (5-17, 0-5) with 20 points, Mitch Patton and Ja'Rob McCallam each added 18 points and Marcellus Barksdale scored 13 points, as the Jaguars lost their fifth straight.
IPFW used a 25-8 run in the first half that gave them a 44-29 advantage at the break. The Mastodons were hot from the field in the half, shooting 56.3 percent and knocking down 7-of-14 from beyond the arc. IUPUI was held to just 37.9 percent from the field, missing all but one of its six 3-point tries.
After intermission, the Mastodons continued to drain shots, hitting on 56.7 percent from the field and 6-of-12 from 3-point range. The Jaguars improved their shooting to 46.9 percent in the second half but still struggled to keep up with the Mastodons from deep, making only 4-of-12 from 3-point distance. The Mastodons led comfortably for the entire half, going ahead by as many as 22, as they cruised to victory.
IPFW finished the night an impressive 13-of-26 from 3-point range. The Mastodons also produced down low, outscoring the Jaguars in the paint, 42-24.
