                         === Jets set 53-man roster ===

Florham Park, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets made 22 transactions
Saturday to get their roster down to the NFL's mandated 53-player limit.

The biggest name among the players released was quarterback Greg McElroy. The
Jets' seventh-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, McElroy played in two games
(one start) last season, completing 19-of-31 passes for 214 yards, one
 touchdown and one interception.

He played in the first preseason game, going 11-for-19 for 145 yards and a
touchdown against the Lions. However, he suffered a knee sprain in practice
 before the preseason finale.

With McElroy gone, the Jets will have four quarterbacks on the roster: rookie
Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez, Matt Simms and recently acquired Graham Harrell.

Other players released from the Jets organization were running back Mossis
Madu, wide receivers Michael Campbell, Mohammed Massaquoi, Ben Obomanu and
Zach Rogers, tight end Chris Pantale, offensive linemen Erik Cook, J.B.
Shugarts and Jason Smith, defensive linemen Junior Aumavae, Lanier Coleman,
Tevita Finau and Antonio Garay, linebackers Troy Davis, JoJo Dickson and
Jacquies Smith, defensive backs Royce Adams, Mike Edwards and Rontez Miles,
 and kicker Dan Carpenter.

The Jets have also moved running back Mike Goodson to the reserve/suspended
list. The 26-year-old Goodson was suspended four games on August 26 for
violating the NFL's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Goodson, who signed a three-year, $6.9 million contract this offseason, was
arrested on May 17 on drug possession and weapon charges.
