Description: The Anaheim Ducks have traded Kurtis Foster and Timmo Pielmeier to the New Jersey Devils for Rod Pelley, Mark Fraser, and a seventh-round pick. NHL.com
Insight: The Devils need some immediate help on the blueline, as both Andy Greene and Anton Volchenkov are currently sidelined. As well, Foster should help a power play that is currently ranked 26th in the league. The Ducks weren't using Foster very much, and they figured to use him even less with Lubomir Visnovsky expected to return this week.

Description: Kurtis Foster is expected to miss the next 2-4 weeks following a procedure to remove wire from his left thigh. NHL.com
Insight: The wire was in place from surgery in 2008 from his badly fractured leg. The Ducks start the season in Finland, so there's a good chance that Foster won't be with the team on the trip.

Description: The Edmonton Oilers have traded defenseman Kurtis Foster to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Andy Sutton. NHL.com
Insight: The Oilers needed more toughness on the blueline, which is why they went after Sutton. Foster should provide more mobility on the Ducks' blueline and could see some power-play time behind Lubomir Visnovsky and Cam Fowler.
