Oilers ink D Ference

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers added a veteran presence to their defense on Friday, signing Andrew Ference to a four-year deal.

Ference, who spent the last six-plus seasons in Boston, is a native of Edmonton and returned home for a contract reportedly worth a total of $13 million.

The 34-year-old Ference played in all 48 games for the Bruins last season, posting four goals and nine assists. He added two assists in 14 playoff games for Boston, which lost to Chicago in six games during the Stanley Cup Finals.

Ference is a veteran of 760 NHL games and has recorded 37 goals and 156 assists during a career which has also included stops in Pittsburgh and Calgary.

Also on Friday, the Oilers agreed to terms with center Boyd Gordon on a three- year contract and goaltender Jason LaBarbera on a one-year deal. Both unrestricted free agents spent last season with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Gordon had four goals and 10 assists in 48 games in 2013 for Phoenix, while LaBarbera went 4-6-2 with a 2.64 goals against average as a backup to Mike Smith.

In addition, Edmonton agreed to terms with forward Jesse Joensuu on a two-year deal.
