Played in all 13 games for the USC in 2008, finishing fourth on the team with a total of 56 tackles, of which nine were behind the line of scrimmage...Matthews, who comes from a celebrated football family that includes father Clay who was a member of the 1974 national title team at USC, tied for second on the unit as a senior with 4.5 sacks and accounted for one of the squad's four blocked kicks this past season...Capable of playing any linebacker position, Matthews was also a threat at the end position and proved to be a great resource for the Trojans as their co-Special Teams Player of the Year as a junior in 2007...Began his career as a walk-on and had to deal with playing behind several outstanding linebackers during his tenure at USC, which may have prevented him from showing his entire skill set.
