Cowboys release longtime WR Austin

Irving, TX ( - The Dallas Cowboys released veteran wide receiver Miles Austin on Wednesday.

The Cowboys designated it as a June 1 cut. The move will save the team $5.5 million against the salary cap this season, though that money will be unavailable until after June 1.

Austin had been with the Cowboys since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2006.

A hamstring injury sidelined the 29-year-old for five contests last season and he finished with only 24 receptions, his fewest since 2008.

Austin topped 1,000 yards receiving twice during his time with the Cowboys.

For his career, Austin has caught 301 passes for 4,481 yards and 34 touchdowns in 106 games.
