Jets' Holmes questionable for opener

Florham Park, NJ (Sports Network) - New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is listed as questionable for Sunday's opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due a lingering foot injury.

Holmes suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury to his left foot last September against the San Francisco 49ers and is still working his way towards a full recovery.

Holmes, who did not practice Thursday, was a limited participant on Wednesday and Friday. He was inactive for all four of the Jets' preseason games.

Since coming over to the Jets in 2010, Holmes has amassed 123 receptions for 1,672 yards and 15 touchdowns over 32 games.

In addition, defensive end Quinton Coples (ankle) has been ruled out and defensive tackle (back) Kenrick Ellis is questionable.

The Jets had already ruled out quarterback Mark Sanchez, who hurt his throwing shoulder in a preseason game against the Giants on Aug. 24, earlier in the week. Rookie Geno Smith will make his first career start under center in Sanchez's place.
