Description: Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma was brilliant again Saturday against the Blue Jays, tossing seven innings of one-run ball. He walked three, struck out five and allowed five hits to improve to 3-1.
Insight: Iwakuma came into Saturday's start with the seventh-best swing-and-miss rate in the majors. While his 1.61 ERA will increase once his .191 BABIP rises, Iwakuma is still a tremendous fantasy option.

Description: Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma held the Angels to three hits and one unearned run in six innings Sunday.
Insight: Iwakuma didn't walk a batter and has a 37/5 K/BB in 37 2/3 innings. His ERA is 1.67 and his WHIP is 0.69, but he has won only two of his six starts.

Hot4/18/2013 9:13:00 PM
Description: Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma outdueled Justin Verlander Thursday afternoon and shut out the high-powered Tigers' offense on three hits over six innings.
Insight: Iwakuma has given up a measly 12 hits and five earned runs (four homers) in 26 2/3 innings this season. He owns a 2-0 record and a 18/1 K/BB. This comes after he went 8-4 with a 2.65 ERA over 95 innings in 16 starts last year.

11/3/2012 9:17:00 AM
Description: Seattle re-signed RHP Hisashi Iwakuma to a two-year contract extension with a club option for 2015.
Insight: If Seattle failed to reach an agreement with the pitcher by Saturday he would have become a free agent, and even if they re-signed him after the deadline he would have been ineligible to play for the Mariners until mid-May. The 31-year-old went 9-5 with a 3.16 ERA last season, though was even better as a starter, posting an 8-4 record and 2.65 ERA in 16 starts.

10/27/2012 8:51:00 PM
Description: The Mariners are hoping to re-sign starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma during the offseason.
Insight: Iwakuma's first season in the major leagues was a success. He ended the year with nine wins and a 3.16 ERA in 125 1/3 innings.

Hot9/27/2012 9:09:00 PM
Description: Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma is 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA in 15 starts this season. The rookie righty beat the Angels Thursday by allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with zero walks and three strikeouts in six innings.
Insight: Iwakuma started out in Seattle's bullpen but he's been excellent since joining the rotation in July.

Hot9/2/2012 9:07:00 PM
Description: Seattle righthander Hisashi Iwakuma tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings Sunday versus the Angels.
Insight: Iwakuma outdueled Los Angeles ace Jered Weaver for his sixth win of the year. The 31-year-old is now 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA in his last four starts.

8/22/2012 10:02:00 PM
Description: Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last seven starts.
Insight: Iwakuma is 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 53 2/3 innings as a starter this season. He was 4.75 ERA in 14 appearances as a reliever. The right-handed rookie is worth an add in deeper leagues.

7/5/2012 3:58:00 PM
Description: Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma is expected to assume Hector Noesi's spot in Seattle's rotation after the All-Star break, according to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times.
Insight: Iwakuma is 1-1 with a 4.84 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 15 appearances this season, including one start. The Japanese right-hander has struggled with control, walking 18 batters in 35 1/3 innings, so he may have a difficult time going deep into games as a starter.

3/22/2012 5:34:00 PM
Description: In a surprise move, Hisashi Iwakuma will start the season in Seattle's bullpen instead of in the starting rotation.
Insight: Iwakuma has been hit hard this spring, allowing batters to hit .358 against him. Iwahuma could get another shot at a starting gig if Kevin Millwood struggles or if any of Seattle's other starters get hurt.
